Introduction

Introduction to Secondary Facelift (Revision Facelift)

Though a facelift can last several years, restoring your youthfulness and confidence in your facial appearance, the results are not permanent. If you are beginning to see the results of your facelift fading and signs of natural aging returning, you can still reverse them at Rivera Plastic Surgery in Miami Beach with a secondary facelift. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Carlos Rivera, has extensive experience in secondary or revision facelift procedures, helping thousands of patients regain confidence in their youthful-looking faces.

What is a Secondary Facelift (also known as a Revision Facelift)?

A secondary facelift, also known as a revision facelift, is a highly advanced surgical procedure designed to restore the youthful results from a previous facelift. Even after a facelift, gravity and natural aging cause the tissues to sag, lose volume, and develop wrinkles. Similar to a facelift, a secondary facelift treats these signs of aging by removing excess skin, lifting and repositioning underlying tissues, and sculpting the facial contours for a natural, refreshed look.

The techniques required to perform a secondary facelift are highly complex because the tissues have already been altered. Choosing a plastic surgeon who specializes in this procedure, such as Dr. Rivera, will help you achieve more natural-looking, long-lasting results with less downtime and less tissue trauma.

What Are the Benefits of a Secondary Facelift?

The benefits that come with a secondary facelift are fantastic. Below are some key advantages you can expect when you get the procedure in Miami Beach at Rivera Plastic Surgery:

  • Reversal of ongoing aging, such as new skin laxity, sagging jowls, and necklines
  • Removal of excess skin
  • Restored natural volume
  • Reversed hollow appearance
  • Corrects asymmetry or imperfections from previous facelift
  • Refined, long-lasting results
  • Increased confidence

Who Are the Best Candidates For a Secondary Facelift?

The best candidates for a secondary facelift in Miami Beach are people who:

  • Have fully recovered from a facelift at least a few years ago
  • Want to restore their youthful contours with subtle results
  • Are dissatisfied with sagging cheeks, jowls, or wrinkles in the face or neck
  • Do not smoke
  • Have good overall health
  • Have realistic expectations

What’s the first step?

The first step each of our Miami Beach patients must take before getting their secondary facelift surgery is to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Rivera. When you meet with Dr. Rivera, you will go over your aesthetic goals, medical history, and receive a thorough examination of the results of your previous facelift. We welcome you to ask any questions that come up, so you can feel comfortable and informed. You will also discuss the possibility of combining other procedures as well.

If you are approved for the procedure, Dr. Rivera will create a personalized surgical plan that accounts for scar tissue from your previous facelift, changes in your facial anatomy, and the techniques used in your initial procedure. You’ll also go over the cost to make sure you are comfortable with the price.

How Do I Prepare for My Secondary Facelift?

To prepare for your Miami Beach secondary facelift, you should stop taking blood thinners, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, at least 2 to 3 weeks before your surgery to reduce bruising and bleeding. Limit your alcohol consumption at least 1 to 2 weeks before surgery, and eat a balanced diet. If you are a smoker, stop smoking at least 4 to 6 weeks before surgery to avoid complications while healing.

What to Expect on the Day of Secondary Facelift Surgery

All of our procedures take place at our office in Miami Beach, FL. You can expect the procedure to take several hours, so make sure to clear your calendar for the rest of the day. You’ll need to recover at home with the help of a reliable contact, who will need to pick you up from the surgery and help you recover.

During the surgery, Dr. Rivera will give you general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. When you are fully relaxed and comfortable, he will make the precise incisions along marked lines to minimize scarring and trauma to the skin and tissue. Then, he’ll reposition and tighten the underlying tissues, cut away excess skin, and shape your face to restore your facial contours.

You can return home with the contact, who will need to drive you.

Secondary Facelift Recovery

Recovering from your Miami Beach secondary facelift is critical to achieving optimal results. It won’t look much different from your facelift recovery period, but it could take a little longer because you’ll have existing scar tissue and more advanced signs of aging.

You can expect some swelling and bruising for the first couple of weeks, which will be a little uncomfortable, but not painful. Dr. Rivera will prescribe you pain medication to help you manage the discomfort. Though the healing process varies per individual, you can return to light to moderate activities within 10 to 14 days. Regular activities can be resumed after a month.

Tips for Recovery

Here are some simple recovery tips that can go a long way:

  • Sleep and rest on your back, so you don’t interfere with the incision healing
  • Elevate your head to reduce swelling and pressure
  • Apply ice packs for the first 2-3 days to minimize swelling and bruising
  • Keep the incision sites clean and avoid pulling or stretching your neck
  • Go on light walks to prevent blood clots

How Much Does a Secondary Facelift Cost in Miami Beach, FL?

cost

The cost of a Secondary Facelift in Miami Beach depends on a variety of factors, such as the extent of your surgery, the complexity of the techniques required to achieve your goals, anesthesia fees, facility costs, and the experience of your provider. Dr. Carlos Rivera is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts, tummy tucks, and body contouring.
