What is Neck Liposuction?
This procedure improves the neck contours by using a liposuction technique. The fat is aspirated, and the neck is sculpted to the degree that is allowed by your neck anatomy. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia with minimal downtime. We do recommend using a support garment (“jaw bra”) for a few weeks after surgery. There is a high degree of satisfaction, and the changes can range from mild-moderate to very significant, depending on each individual’s underlying anatomy. Why is this? Because of the complexity of the neck anatomy. With submental liposuction, we can only remove fat outside a superficial neck muscle called the platysma. Nevertheless, some people also have fat deep in the platysma muscle. It is impossible before surgery (not even by a good physical exam) to determine how much of the fat is superficial or deep to these muscles. Despite this, neck liposuction can be an excellent treatment to improve neck contours due to its simplicity, quick recovery time, less expense, and ability to be done with only local anesthesia in the office. A personal consultation is your best option, including determining if you are a better candidate for a neck lift or liposuction with the MyEllevate Minimally Invasive Neck Lift Alternative procedure. Of note, liposuction at Rivera Plastic Surgery is always done in combination with other treatments like liposuction or energy-based skin tightening (Renuvion J-Plasma™, Retraction™, FaceTite™, QuantumRF™, and others), using our Full-Tech™ approach.
