What is Body Contouring After Weight Loss?
A group of tailored operations frequently done after bariatric surgery is commonly referred to as body contouring after massive weight loss. This set of individualized operations is aimed at reducing excess skin and fat left behind after major weight loss. The main goal is to restore attractive proportions and improve physical function by removing sagging skin (and some residual fat in some cases) around the face, neck, upper arms, chest, breasts, abdomen, flanks, hips, pubis, buttocks, and thighs. Although these types of procedures do leave scars, most patients find them an acceptable tradeoff for improved function and appearance.
Body contouring procedures may include:
- Arm lift: Improves sagging of the upper arms
- Breast lift: Improves sagging and flattening of breasts
- Gynecomastia correction (in men): Improves excess skin and fat in the chest
- Upper body lift: Improves mid-back rolls and some excess skin or rolls in the upper abdomen
- Lower body lift: Improves sagging of the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and pubis
- Thigh lift: Improves sagging of the thighs
- Tummy tuck: Improves excess skin over the abdomen rolls and folds
- Facelift: Improves sagging of the mid-face, jowls, and neck
- Neck lift: Improves sagging of the neck
